Fit for a Cause Challenges are a perfect marriage of my PASSION and PURPOSE!!
Our team has a PAY IT FORWARD mission that includes numerous organizations. I have a CAUSE very near and dear to my heart, SURVIVORS of sexual assault. It's my MISSION to make sure that women and teen girls who have lived through this horror, receive the type of SUPPORT necessary to THRIVE in the aftermath.
This issue is one I have a personal stake in. I was molested, raped, and assaulted for 6 years. I understand what it's like to be BRAVE and STRONG.
I know FIRSTHAND what can happen if the residual trauma is left to FESTER...It sure doesn't heal...properly. The wounds close up but their is an INFECTION that takes root and seeks to DESTROY you from the INSIDE OUT.
Take a MOMENT and really soak in the story these number tell please!
- Survivors of sexual assault are 4 times more likely to contemplate suicide.
- 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed rape; 2.8% attempted rape).
- 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12.
- 93% of juvenile sexual assault victims know their attacker.
- 7% of girls in grades 5-8 and 12% of girls in grades 9-12 said they had been sexually abused.

While I will NEVER be anyone's victim...I AM A SURVIVOR of long term sexual assault at the hands of my ANTI-father (stepfather). I AM A SOUL SURTHRIVOR on a Pay It Forward Mission!
Those may just be words on a screen to you but for me they are STATISTICS that make up the STORY OF MY LIFE.
So while I have been battling for my SANITY I have also been battling for my health. The unresolved issues from my abuse were MASKED for years by emotional eating and later the weight was used as a security blanket.
I KNOW I am not alone in this also. That is why these health related ISSUES to obesity are so frightening.
One study found that nearly one in five US deaths is associated with obesity, which is more than three times higher than previous estimates.
The effect varies somewhat by your gender, race and age. The younger you are, the greater obesity's influence on your mortality. And contrary to a previous study, obesity is not protective if you're elderly. The Columbia study found the following percentage of deaths associated with high BMI (body mass index):
Percentage of deaths associated with a BMI of 25 or above
(overweight or obese threshold)
More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese.
Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.
While becoming a RAINNmaker and donating to RAINN is a great start it's not addressing the WHOLE issue. We need to heal our MINDS, BODIES, and SPIRITS for long term change. We need HELP OURSELVES and others.
